Born and raised in Ottawa, Alison Young is a JUNO-nominated and Maple Blues award winning saxophonist and composer. She has been leading her own ensemble since 2012, composing and arranging for duo through to septet. Alison's quintet has played the main stages of the Toronto Jazz Festival, the Ottawa Jazz Festival, the Markham Jazz Festival, the Niagara Jazz Festival, as well as opening for Stacey Kent at Koerner Hall. In 2017, Alison was chosen as one of the 'Best 35 Canadian Jazz Artists under 35' by the CBC, and was featured in Pat LaCroix and Ted O'Reilly's book, "Toronto Jazz Treasures" alongside many of her musical heroes.The Alison Young Quintet's debut album, So Here We Are, was nominated for a 2019 JUNO in the Solo Jazz Instrumental Album of the Year category.

As a sideperson, Alison is a versatile and in-demand saxophonist in a wide range of genres, appearing on over 50 recordings, including JUNO nominated albums by Alysha Brilla, Shakura S'Aida, and Digging Roots. She has played throughout North America, South America, Europe and Asia with artists such as Joe Sealy, Big Rude Jake, Johnny Reid, the Shuffle Demons, Blue Moon Marquee, and Suzie McNeil. In the summer of 2019, she toured across Canada accompanying iconic pop star Corey Hart, and was featured on his single "Dreaming Time Again". Alison received the Maple Blues "Horn Player Of The Year" award three years in a row, in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
