Avishai Cohen is a globally renowned trumpeter, composer, and player known for his individual sound, questing spirit, and openness to various strains of jazz. He has been active as a leader, co-leader, and sideman, performing with his quartet, his previous trio Triveni, and as a part of ensembles like the Mark Turner Quartet, the SFJAZZ Collective, Jazz100, Zakir Hussain, and the 3 Cohens Sextet alongside his siblings, Anat and Yuval. Cohen launched his band Big Vicious in 2014, featuring Uzi Ramirez (guitar), Yonatan Albalak (guitar/bass), Aviv Cohen (drums), and Ziv Ravitz (second drummer). This "magical group" blends jazz with textures and grooves from electronic, ambient, psychedelic, rock, pop, and trip-hop music. Cohen has also been named the Artistic Director of the International Jerusalem Festival and has been voted a Rising Star in the DownBeat Critics Poll three consecutive times.
