The Hive is a 5 member ensemble that performs jazz from the great American Songbook to Contemporary Jazz, Funk and Fusion. 

Saxophones 

Samantha Luke 

Samantha Luke is a saxophonist from Hamilton, Ontario, inspired by both modern and classic players including Walter Smith III, Kenny Garrett, and Sonny Rollins. She has extensive experience performing in jazz and musical theatre, including productions of West Side Story and A Chorus Line. Samantha is excited to bring her versatility and passion for improvisation to The Hive’s energetic fusion sound. 

Keyboard Bruce Tournay 

Bruce Tournay is a Canadian pianist and vocalist with over 30 years of performance experience at theatres, private events, clubs, cruise lines, and seniors’ residences across the country. He has appeared in numerous tribute productions and has shared the stage with artists such as Dave Rave and Tommy Ambrose, as well as performing at major events including the 100th Grey Cup and the Just For Laughs Gala at Toronto’s Massey Hall. Tournay recently released his recording Love Love Lemon, featuring several of Canada’s leading jazz musicians including Terry Clarke, Bill McBirne and Russ Little. 

Guitar Ron Palangio 

Ron was born and raised in North Bay, Ontario, in 1978 he moved to Hamilton, Ontario, to study jazz and classical guitar at Mohawk College’s Applied Music Program. After graduating, he worked as a freelance classical jazz rock pop guitarist around the Toronto-Hamilton area. Ron continued his education at McMaster University and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. He taught secondary music in Hamilton for 29 years while performing or professional theatre productions, big bands, dance, pop, and classic rock groups. Now retired he continues to perform regularly in clubs, restaurants, and private venues in and around the Hamilton area. 

Bass Jimmy Howard 

Jimmy Howard is a graduate from McMaster university and Mohawk College jazz performance studies. A seasoned professional playing different genres of music around the GTA. Big bands/R and B bands/Jazz groups. 

Drums Alex Karsza

Born in Hamilton, Canada, Alex has been a full-time drummer, playing the club circuit across Canada in various show bands and R&B acts. During the late 80s and early 1990s, Alex toured extensively with Harrison Kennedy and the Rockin’ Hurricanes and recorded “Live in the Eye” with the band. While best known for his R&B and blues playing, Alex has also pursued his interest in big band, jazz and fusion music.
