Rebecca Hennessy is an award-winning Canadian musician whose music brings together jazz, roots, and the intimate storytelling of the singer-songwriter tradition. With an expressive voice and lyrical trumpet playing as parallel storytellers, Hennessy creates music that is intimate, spacious, and powerful—grounded in jazz harmony and improvisation while reaching beyond genre.
Her new album, Maps and Photographs, is a collection of nine original songs exploring memory, family, migration, love, loss, and our relationship to the natural world. The album brings together an exceptional ensemble featuring Kevin Breit, Tania Gill, Michael Herring, and Dave Clark. Together, they create a richly textured, cinematic sound that leaves room for spontaneity, interplay, and emotional connection. At the centre is Hennessy’s distinctive songwriting: direct, unguarded, and deeply human.
On stage, Hennessy brings the same openness and musical curiosity to her performances, moving fluidly between voice, trumpet, composed material, and improvisation. Her work is rooted in collaboration and a belief that a great performance can create a genuine sense of connection between musicians and audience.
Hennessy has released ten albums as a bandleader or co-leader and toured throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, Mexico, Panama, and Sri Lanka. She has performed and recorded with Adele, Feist, Ron Sexsmith, Broken Social Scene, Yellowjackets, Danilo Pérez, Brian Blade, and John Patitucci.
A recipient of the Toronto Arts Foundation Emerging Jazz Artist Award, Hennessy was nominated for the 2026 Louis Applebaum Composers Award and has been a Yamaha Artist since 2021.
