Oscar Evans is a Canadian jazz composer and multi-instrumentalist from Kingston, Ontario specializing in upright bass and trumpet. Blinded in his adolescence, Oscar has gravitated toward learning multiple instruments as a medium for understanding music theory and musicianship.
Oscar studied Jazz Trumpet at Humber College from 2017-2020 and looks forward to coming back to Toronto with his ensemble of incredibly talented jazz musicians with a set inspired by Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk, Lester Bowie and Mose Allison. This group fuses free jazz elements with New Orleans/gospel jazz, and they will also be interpreting some of Oscar’s original music that can be heard on some of his latest recordings.
Oscar consistently pushes his own boundaries to create interesting new music. His full length free jazz record Sound Permutations is available Sept 5, and a full length album of original compositions will be out next year. You can find more information at his website oscarevans.com.
