The Nickel-Ling Quintet is a collection of young Toronto musicians led by trumpet player Fionn Ling and Trombonist Luke Nickel. The combo delivers music steeped in the rich tradition of Jazz and takes inspiration from the Big Band sound where instruments were used and arranged in creative ways to capture a vast array of textures and soundscapes. By bringing a fresh perspective through contemporary approach to arrangements and the frequent use of instrument mutes, this quintet strives to breathe new life into their inspirations.
