Acclaimed jazz and classical pianist Michael Arnowitt is joined by the popular Toronto bassist George Koller for a colourful and diverse set featuring Michael Arnowitt’s new medley of jazz arrangements of Bartok’s Six Roumanian Dances, spirited music based on the vibrant folk melodies and rhythms from Bartok’s part of Europe, all transformed into the language of jazz. They will will also perform jazz standards, selections from the pianist’s Jazz Suite from West Side Story, originals and much more.
Michael Arnowitt recently immigrated to Canada from having lived in Vermont in the United States for many years, and has been warmly received by Toronto locals for his extraordinary sense of touch at the piano, the absorbing musical landscapes he creates through improvisation, the imaginative colours and musical textures he draws from the piano, and his natural and engaging onstage manner with audiences of all ages.
Bassist George Koller is well known to Toronto audiences. He is a prolific studio and touring musician and producer and record label owner, working with Holly Cole, Laila Biali, Mike Janzen, David Clayton Thomas, Ensemble Vivant and hundreds of wonderful jazz, classical and world music ensembles.
