Matthew Endahl (he/him, she/her) is a genderfluid pianist and improviser who has worked in improvised music for many years. Born and raised in Michigan, Matt worked as a bandleader and sideman in the Ann Arbor scene for 10 years. She moved to Nashville in 2013 and soon became one of the most in-demand pianists in Middle Tennessee. In 2022, Matthew moved to Ontario to work on his PhD in Critical Studies in Improvisation at the University of Guelph. Locally, Matthew works with the interdisciplinary improvisation project Almost Alchemy, and also plays with the Ted Warren Trio and Joe Sorbara’s Temporary Ensembles, among other groups.
For tonight’s performance, Matt will be joined by Toronto mainstays Dan Fortin and Nick Fraser, and will present a selection of jazz standards and original compositions in the traditions of Black North American music.
