Born and raised in Bowmanville, Ontario, guitarist Cody Copland picked up  the instrument at age 13 and quickly found his passion in jazz by the end of  high school. His love of the music led him to Humber College, where he  studied under some of Canada’s most respected musicians, including Neil  Swainson, Trevor Giancola, and Lucian Gray.  

Deeply inspired by the jazz tradition, Cody draws on the sounds of Clifford  Brown, Bud Powell, Charlie Parker, and Peter Bernstein, while continuing  to shape a voice that is distinctly his own. After completing his Bachelor of  

Music at Humber, he went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the  University of Toronto.  

Now an active part of Toronto’s jazz community, Cody can be heard  performing with peers such as Steve Carson, Tymish Koznarsky, Duncan  Wilson, and Evan Miles, as well as long-time veterans of the scene  including Duncan Hopkins and Perry White.
