Tuesday September 29th, 5-7pm: Beverly Taft sings with Tania Gill on Piano and Chris Gale on Saxophone
Beverly has been performing jazz standards, bossa nova, blues, and chansons for more than 20 years, and The Rex is one of her favourite venues to sing at. It’s a kind of home-away-from-home for so many musicians, including her terrific musical pals this time, Chris Gale and Tania Gill. Studying and singing this music has helped Beverly write tunes also – she and Nathan Hiltz released a critically-acclaimed album of 10 of their jazz and blues originals. The longer the journey is, the deeper Beverly wants to go into the melodies, harmonies, and rhythms for the essence of a song’s story and intent. She mines the past for forgotten gems and intro verses, and she’s also been diving into Brazilian bossa nova (especially in the original Portuguese). Beverly loves her audiences and is thrilled to be able to welcome people to The Rex for this early-week matinee of great tunes. Come on in!
